As you can tell by this page and it's
subsequent decoration, one of my favorite animes is certainly Fushigi Yuugi.
In English, Fushigi Yuugi translates into "Mysterious Play". Essentially,
the story which surrounds this anime is the discovery of the book of the
Four Gods of Heaven and Earth. While in the process of reading this
story, Miaka Yuki (your typical Japanese school girl) and her friend, Yui
Hongo, are both transported to a world reminscent of Old China. While
there, they discover they are the chosen priestesses (hand-maidens) of
two opposing gods (Suzaku and Seiryu). It is their mission to gather together
their respective 7 guardians in order to summon their god.
The main problem, however, is they are each in the hands of opposing which
are close to war.
Believe it or not, that is a very
brief and sussicent overview. This anime has so much to offer.
It is humorous, romantic, and filled with adventure. However, the
most impressive aspect of this story is the artwork which accompanies it.
Most anime tends to become lazy with each new episode, but for the 52 episodes
of this anime, it remained wonderfully illustrated. If you get a
chance, please take a look at it. Pioneer has just begun releasing
it in America. For more information on release dates and other information
for the flood of anime coming to America, please follow any of my anime
links.
