I think my father is best remembered as a simple man who without a doubt lived his life to the fullest. He, like all of us, had his hills and valleys, but he always took it in stride and continued on with unfaltering perseverance. From matters of love to finance, he shouldered his share of dilemmas, but regardless he handled his trials as they came. Through it all, he bore a smile and exhibited the love of a father. And so, I think my father's spirit of taking life from day to day and his belief that eventually all bad things must pass away to be replaced by the goodness that surrounds us is best epitomized by a poem from Theodore Tilton.
Once in Persia reigned a king
who, upon his signet ring,
'graved a maxim true and wise
which, if held before the eyes
gave him counsel at a glance,
fit for every change and chance.
Solemn words and these are they:
"Even this shall pass away."
